The other thought I had here was that because of a societal lens, if it had been the woman who was forgetful, it would come across as a sexist joke about a ditsy woman. But because it’s the man, it seems to come across as a universal thing rather than sexist. Or am I sexist for perceiving it this way LOL?

Well, wouldn’t it seem inaccurate if the roles were reversed? Is that kind of forgetfulness equally distributed between the sexes? Maybe the joke is more autobiographical than universal? Good stuff!

This is good stuff. I see myself in it. Whenever we would lose anything as kids, my mother would throw up her hands and exclaim, “XYZ? How can you lose an XYZ? “. She would say exactly that, no matter what you would lose. It was equally fitting for something huge, something small, something old, something new.
